The Town of Pincher Creek is pleased to announce construction of the new early learning centres set to begin in August. Following a competitive bid process, on July 22nd the Council for the Town of Pincher Creek approved the bid received from Silver Ridge Construction Ltd. in the amount of $3 075 000 for construction of Early Learning Centre facilities at St. Michael’s and Canyon Schools subject to the acceptance and approval of the site preparation tender(s).
Silver Ridge Construction has a proven track record of delivering projects on time and on budget. Both the St Michael’s School and Canyon School sites will be built concurrently, and available for occupancy by spring 2020. Efforts will be made to use local sub-contractors and to buy materials locally.
The Pincher Creek Community Early Learning Centre is an initiative of the Town of Pincher Creek to provide high quality, affordable and accessible childcare to the residence of the town and the surrounding communities. Community members, Livingstone Range School Division, Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Division and experts in early learning have developed a unique model to address the community’s need for childcare. The Town of Pincher Creek is in active discussions with other potential partners to share the capital costs of building the two facilities, including the Municipal District of Pincher Creek and the Ministry of Children’s Services/Government of Alberta.
Child care is an essential service to support economic development and sustainability in the community. In addition, high quality child care offers the best possible outcomes for our youngest citizens, at a time when they are eager, ready and willing to learn in ways suitable to their level of development under the guidance of highly qualified, trained and licensed staff. Social and emotional development, physical literacy and play-based learning are pillars of the philosophy towards childcare at the Pincher Creek Early Learning Centre.
